Diamond Cay at Little Jost Van Dyke: Paradise!

Saturday, May 22, 2010

We sailed away from Cane Garden Bay. Before sailing, we fished and I CAUGHT A FISH. A porgy. I did put it back after taking its picture. It was a lovely morning.

By 10 am we were at Little Jost Van Dyke at Diamond Cay. There are about 10 moorings and a reef all along the shore. I tried not to look at the neighbor on his catamaran reading his book in his altogether—tmi for sure.

Snorkeling was a wonder. It looks similar to the other places we’ve been so we went looking at tiny fish. Since I figured out how to download Jonathan’s underwater camera I’ve been taking pictures like mad, the camera tied to my wetsuit.

The first big find, a hawksbill turtle. He was looking at us.This was the high point of the day.

We also saw a sting ray. It was flapping its wings to cover up with sand, periodically shooting sand out its ears(?), nose, mouth? It finally swooped away.

Last but not least, a postcard from a friend (Spongebob was in his pineapple).

I am sure that the cushion sea star is the model for Patrick, fat belly and all!!!

More tomorrow!

  1. This is lovely! And sting rays...mouth and nose and ears are all sort of one tube, so you're probably right. I love you!
